ALISON CASSERLY (BA Hons) Fashion Knitwear & Knitted Textiles
I have always been passionate about knitting & crochet, & learnt at an early age! I taught myself to use a knitting machine before taking a BTEC Diploma in Fashion Design, concentrating on knitwear, While my girls were young I made children's jumpers & sold them to other mums. After moving to North Lincolnshire with my family, all my machines were packed away while we lived in a caravan for 18 months while our house was built.
Finally I had the opportunity to study Knitwear at Nottingham Trent University from 2007 - 2011. As part of the course I spent an exciting 8 months on work placement with Di Gilpin, a hand-knit designer in Fife.
I now produce a small, but unique collection of British yarns, dyed naturally in rural Lincolnshire with locally gathered dye-stuffs such as alder cones, nettles and sloes. I have begun to grow my own woad, weld, coreopsis and other plants to create my range of colours and also produce a small range of accessories, kits and garments in these yarns.
I am able to knit to order, so please contact me if you would like something special made from my yarns.
With many years knitting experience I am able to help with design work, pattern-writing & sampling, & have worked with other knitwear designers such as Di Gilpin, Sue Blacker, Cotton & Cloud. Last year I worked with Chantico, a new Yorkshire based company to help create an exciting collection of garments knitted in alpaca, launched at the Driffield Show.
I also enjoy teaching knitting & crochet locally & plan to hold some classes at The Old Tile Works, Barton-on-Humber..
At the moment I am excited to be working with the new local company Stella & Alf & to produce the knitwear for their ethically aware collection.
